The Sandai Kitetsu (Third Demon Splitter)
"It's predecessor, the Nidai Kitetsu (Second Demon Splitter) was one of the Oowaza-mono (The 21 Great Achivements of Craftsmanship), and the Shodai Kitetsu (First Demon Splitter) was one of the Saijou Oowaza-mono (The 12 Supremely Skillful Creations)."
"Starting with the Shodai Kitetsu, they are allexcellent katana. But they are all cursed. The swordsmen who have used the Kitetsu over the years, all of them came to tragic fates, mysterious deaths. You won't find a single swordman in the world nowadays who will use a Kitetsu, because everyone who ever used the sword, is dead."
-One Piece

One of Roronoa Zoro's swords from the anime "One Piece". I am aware that there are some inconsistencies in the design, but it's a bit hard to model from an anime.

Thank you!
It was made with 3DS Max 9 and rendered with Mental Ray 3.5.

S'really nice. Could you make a tutorial, by any chance?

A tutorial on what, exactly?

How to do what you do so well. Model swords, in general. I'm terrible at man made objects...

Hmm. I did start on a tutorial on making a katana blade, but that fell apart since iI couldn't keep the tutorial up to speed with my modifications. Problem is, the process has been 3 years in the making, and the sword has many different parts which are modeled differently. Making a single tutorial would be challenging.

I see.

That's where I go wrong with trying to model man made objects. I do it all in one. Generally from a cube.

That must be though. Itn't cube based modelling best for organic though? It seems easier to make a katana in parts, with loft and whatnot, and then assemble them later. I've tried to make a replica of my own handmade knife, but the project just fell and never got up. Now I'm inspired to try it again though.

Is it me or is the sheath rather irregular in color, or is that cloth? I haven't seen that good pictures of Zoros swords sheaths, so I'm not sure.
Nice depicting of the Sandai Kitetsu. The biggest "Wow" on my part is the irregular welding line that is so characteristic for the Sandai Kitetsu. It gives it that grimm look.
